Bali Airport Tips
The visa on arrival lines can be long at immigration. Skip the line and apply for an e-visa here! It will take 3 to 5 days to approve so plan accordingly. The application can be filled out for up to 5 people at a time and is about $35 USD per person. This will allow you to skip the line and head straight to the electronic gates.
Grab your bags at the carousels.
Then, before you leave the airport, you will also need to fill out this custom form. However, the form will only let you fill it out up to 2 days in advance. Once you fill it out, save the QR code for the customs agents to scan.
As you head out of the airport, you will see money exchanges (you can exchange here if it’s a good rate $1 USD = $16,300 IDR). Otherwise, there are money exchanges and ATMs all over Bali.
Then, when you pass the duty-free stores, you will see drivers with signs. If you booked your airport transfer with Uluwatu Surf Villas, look for a driver with their sign on it and you’ll be on your way. Otherwise, call a grab a driver or we have a few other private driver recommendations on our Local Hookups page.
Here is a short video if you’re a visual learner:
✓ Don’t drink the tap water — Always opt for bottled or filtered water (even for brushing teeth if you’re sensitive). But don’t worry Uluwatu Surf Villas has filtered taps!!!
✓ Wear reef-safe sunscreen — The sun is intense and reef-safe protects both your skin and the ocean.
✓ Cash (aka rupiah) is queen — Many small spots don’t take cards, and ATMs can be unreliable or charge high fees. Exchange cash in the US or at an money exchange with a good rate ($1 USD = about $16,300 IDR).
✓ Rent a scooter (carefully!) — It’s the best way to get around, but only if you’re confident driving one. Always wear a helmet!!! If you do not feel comfortable driving a scooter, do not rent one. Stick with Grab :)
✓ Bugs love you — Protect your glow with mosquito spray, especially at sunset.
✓ Grab a local SIM or eSIM — stay connected for those sunset snaps and Google Maps mishaps. If you don’t have an international plan, this can be a very cheap way to get internet.
